Sykes Fund Deadline Approaching
Thursday, October 13, 2011

Nonprofit organizations of South Big Horn County have just less than a month left to submit grant applications to the Gordon and Edna Sykes Endowment Fund, overseen by the Wyoming Community Foundation.

The application deadline is Nov. 1. Applications may be submitted through the WYCF’s website at http://www.wycf.org/grants/index.html.

The Sykes Fund was established in December 2006 through a bequest from Gordon and Edna Sykes. Its advisory committee considers grant applications twice a year, on July 1 and November 1.

The application form is “pretty straightforward,” said David Bottom, executive director The Shack, which received grant money in March 2008. “It was fairly easy in the scheme of all the grant application forms that are out there,” he said.

The Shack is run by the Greybull Alliance Church, as a gathering place for its youth group.

Jackie Claudson, the hospital administrator for the South Big Horn Critical Access Hospital, echoed Bottom’s observations. She said the application process “was not as cumbersome as others,” and that the WYCF staff was very helpful in guiding her through.

Claudson’s advice to other nonprofits who would like to apply for a grant from the Sykes Fund is, “Just do it. Gather the information you need, and move forward.”

For more information about the grant application process, visit the WYCF website or call 307-721-8300.

The Wyoming Community Foundation’s mission is to connect people who care with causes that matter to build a better Wyoming.
