Keynote Speaker: Penelope Burk, author, trainer, presenter and President of Cygnus

Penelope Burk has over forty years of experience in not-for-profit management, fundraising and research. A native of Montreal, Canada, Penelope began her professional career in market research, public relations and fundraising, becoming known as a “turn-around specialist” who advocated innovative solutions to improve revenue and institutional performance.

 

In 2000, Penelope introduced the not-for-profit industry to the concept of Donor-Centered Fundraising®, transforming the way the sector communicates with donors and bringing fundraising in

line with donors’ needs.  Today, Penelope’s groundbreaking research continues to gain international recognition for challenging long-standing but ineffective fundraising practices and showcasing evidence-based methods that raise more money.

 

She is a highly sought-after presenter and researcher whose training session and forums are widely acclaimed as unique, engaging and among the most effective in the nonprofit sector.

Film Screening: SAVING PHILANTHROPY: RESOURCES TO RESULTS ®: Saving Philanthropy profiles diverse social service organizations that have gained national attention for the measurable outcomes they achieve, and highlights the roles that their internal management and forward thinking funders play in the process.  The program lays out in clear and digestible language the key components of a managing to outcomes strategy, and utilizes interviews with leading voices in the

sector to explore how to foster a managing to outcomes culture.

This one-hour film will be followed by a Q & A panel discussion with funders and nonprofits.

Technology Breakout Sessions: Andrea Berry, Director of Partnerships and Learning, Idealware

Idealware, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, provides thoroughly researched, impartial and accessible resources about software to help nonprofits make smart software decisions. Andrea oversees Idealware's fundraising and training activities. She brings a breadth of experience with fundraising software, particularly as it relates to small nonprofits, and has worked as a consultant with nonprofits to help identify appropriate donor management software. Nonprofits maintain a complicated relationship with technology. Most know that software can streamline their processes and help fulfill their missions more efficiently and effectively, yet lean staffing and tight budgets mean they’re unable to devote the time necessary keep up with new technologies and find the right tools. Andrea will be presenting three breakout sessions: Choosing a Low Cost Donor Management System, Social Media for Executive Directors and Cloud Computing.
