Grants & Scholarships
As one of more than 700 community foundations in the United States, the Wyoming Community Foundation builds and strengthens Wyoming communities by making it possible for a wide range of donors to create permanent, named component funds to meet critical needs. Earnings from these funds are distributed primarily through grants to charitable nonprofit organizations. We also support technical assistance to nonprofit organizations, provide leadership on select community issues, and advance the cause of organized philanthropy throughout Wyoming.

With the help of individuals, families, businesses and organizations, we have distributed more than $26.6 million in the form of grants and scholarships since our inception in 1989. These grants and scholarships are made possible by the generosity of donors who believe in investing in
Wyoming people and communities.

Depending upon the type and amount of monies available, local affiliate distribution committees, fund advisory committees and individual donor advisors, recommend grants for funding to the WYCF Distribution Committee. Applications for grants are reviewed three times a year, applicants are invited to submit an application at any time. Applicants are invited to review the “Guides and Requirements” in order to select a deadline that best suits the needs of your organization. submit an application at any time.

The WYCF makes grants across a broad array of charitable areas including arts and culture, conservation and natural resources, education, civic projects and health and human services. Eligible organizations include nonprofit organizations exempt from federal taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and on occasion, to public/governmental agencies. Grants are not made to individuals.

Our Scholarships Funds are created by individuals, families, or groups who wish to invest in our state’s future and show students they care, all with the guidance and personal services of the Wyoming Community Foundation. These vital funds help students achieve their academic and career-oriented goals.

Scholarship recipients use scholarship awards for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses at the educational institution. By making scholarship grants directly to an educational institution which is either governmental or charitable, the WYCF obtains assurance that the scholarship funds are expended as intended for tax-exempt purposes. The WYCF has chosen not to make scholarship awards for other expenses such as room, board, and travel since they are classified as taxable income.
