Donors
A Fund in the Foundation

This is an individual account created by the contribution of a donor or group of donors. Each fund carries a name chosen by the donor or donors. That name and the guidelines established when the fund is created, become it's distinguishing characteristics for perpetuity.

Anyone can create a Foundation fund. Individuals, companies, nonprofit organizations, and other foundations.
A donor doesn't have to be "wealthy" to establish a "named fund" in the Foundation. A fund may be created with a minimum contribution of $10,000. Anyone may add to any fund in the Foundation, in any amount, at any time.

Choices for Donors

Unrestricted Funds (Discretionary Funds) - These funds offer the Community Foundation the most flexibility to respond to changing community needs. Distributions from this fund are made without restrictions at the discretion of WYCF's Board of Directors, ensuring that the gifts will always address current issues. Geographic Area or Field of Interest Funds - These funds support charitable organizations and activities within a specific geographic area or within a particular charitable field such as arts and culture, conservation and natural resources, education, civic enrichment projects, and health and human services. The Foundation identifies appropriate grantees with established parameters.

Donor Advised Funds - These funds enable donors to recommend distributions to specific charities. The Community Foundation is pleased to have the opportunity to consider those recommendations when grants are decided upon. By law, the Foundation is required to retain the ultimate authority for fund distributions.

Designated Funds - These funds specifically benefit the charities of the donor's choice. This support may be in a fixed dollar amount or a specific percentage of available income. If the named organization changes significantly or ceases to exist, the Community Foundation Board of Directors is responsible for selecting an alternative recipient in keeping with the original intent of the donor.

Scholarship Funds - These funds provide for students attending publicly funded or private (not-for-profit) institutions. The donor may specify the schools the students are to come from, or are to attend.
