VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Friday, October 24, 2008

If you`re looking for a volunteer opportunity that will have a BIG IMPACT on Wyoming, then please mark your calendar to volunteer at the Wyoming Community Foundation during the month of November.

We`re looking for volunteers to help us stuff, seal, and stamp between 6,000 and 7,000 letters for our annual appeal (which is our organization`s biggest fundraiser of the year).

We will be working on this project from November 24 - ??? and we welcome volunteers any time between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

For more info, call Olivia at 307-721-8300 x11 or email olivia@wycf.org .

Our annual appeal generates a so much money to help the WYCF fund millions of dollars worth of projects each year.

Here`s one example of a project funded through WYCF grant money - grant money that we wouldn`t have had if it weren`t for our fabulous donors and our fabulous volunteers who have helped with our fundraisers:

This summer the WYCF awarded a $4,980 grant out of the Working for Wyoming Fund to the Wyoming Family Home Ownership Pilot Project of the Wyoming Housing Network of Casper. This grant will support a “first of its kind real estate initiative that fosters home ownership and leadership opportunities as a strategy to move lower income working families with children out of poverty and towards self-sufficiency,” according to Terry Williams of the WHN.

The Pilot Project will lead selected families through a 10-week financial education course, at the end of which they will begin a two-year savings program. Families will be expected to save at least $100 per month, which will be supplemented at a rate of $6.50 for every $1 saved. The supplemental funds will be donated by five local faith communities, business partners, the Wyoming Women’s Business Center, and matching contributions by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle. By the end of the two-year period, each family will have $18,000, plus interest, that they can use as a down payment on a home loan, closing costs, and home maintenance.
