WAYMAN WING NAMED COMMUNITY HERO Tuesday, July 01, 2008The Wyoming Association of Municipalities recently named Wayman Wing a Community Hero.
Wing contributed the funds to build a Chinese gazebo in Evanston, Wyo. This edifice has become a gathering place and a landmark in the town, providing a wonderful location for events such as weddings and Chinese New Year celebrations.
A traditional Chinese-style garden has been planted around the gazebo. A grant from the Evanston Area Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Wyoming Community Foundation, will provide funds for the Chinese Gazebo Garden Committee to care for and enhance the garden.
Wing now lives in New York, but he grew up in Evanston, and he donated the gazebo to the town in appreciation of the town`s role in his upbringing. The gazebo also reminds the town of the many Chinese railroad workers, miners, and farmers who helped build the community.
